Fond du Lac County, WI Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

Sec. ' Together the language covers a driver who deliberately burns rubber leaving a stop sign or parking lot, and a driver who guns an engine loudly without a corresponding need to accelerate, such as revving at a stoplight. Unlike the county's separate exhaust-muffler requirement in (b)(5), this subsection does not require proof of a missing or defective muffler; the violation turns on the driver's intentional or excessive act, whether or not the vehicle's exhaust system otherwise complies with the muffler rule. As with the rest of § 38-173, the provision applies only in unincorporated Fond du Lac County; the cities of Fond du Lac, Ripon and Waupun, and the county's villages, each enforce their own vehicle-noise rules within municipal limits.

The Sheriff's Office is the primary enforcing agency and issues citations under the county's Uniform Municipal Citation procedure at § 1-9. A conviction under (b)(6), like every other prohibited act in § 38-173, is punishable under the Code's general penalty section, § 1-8.
