Lincoln, NE Noise Ordinances: Vehicle Noise (2026)

Lincoln Municipal Code § 10.14.460 bars operating a motor vehicle with any loud or unusual noise unnecessary to normal driving, and separately bars playing a car radio, tape deck, CD player, or stereo system loud enough to be heard more than 50 feet away on a street, alley, or public place. No penalty is listed in the section itself, so the Title 10 default under § 10.06.160 applies: a traffic infraction fined up to $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second, and $300 for a third within a year. Separately, § 8.24.090(a)(14) fines defective exhaust systems $35 to $100, and § 8.24.100 fines moving or idling vehicles over posted-speed sound limits per a Table 10 schedule.
