Full Breakdown

Nampa City Code section 7-1-10 makes it unlawful to use air compression brakes, commonly called jake brakes, on any motor vehicle within city limits, except in emergency circumstances necessary to prevent an accident or injury to persons or property. Fire department vehicles are specifically exempted. A violation is an infraction, punished at the fixed penalty the Idaho Infraction Rules set for moving traffic infractions. Separately, the city's public noise chapter (6-7-3, 6-7-4) bars loud or offensive automobile and stereo noise plainly audible 100 feet away between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., or 50 feet away for amplification devices at any hour.

Violations & Fines

Infraction; fixed penalty under Idaho Infraction Rule 9(b)(5) for moving traffic infractions; repeat noise-chapter violations (3rd+ in a year) become a misdemeanor.
