Wylie, TX Outdoor Cooking: Outdoor Kitchen Permits (2026)

Sec. 22-4 of the Code of Ordinances is Wylie's general permitting rule: unless a technical code or the Code itself specifically exempts the work, no person may construct, alter, change, restore, remove, relocate or demolish any building or structure covered by Chapter 22 without first getting a city building permit. Outdoor kitchens fall under that requirement, and Appendix A's Construction Permits and Fees schedule lists a dedicated $200.00 fee for an outdoor kitchen permit, distinct from the $150.00 or $50.00 charged for a site-built fireplace or fire pit with or without a gas line, the $300.00 in-ground pool fee, or the $50.00/$100.00 accessory-building fees.

Sec. 22-3 gives the building official and the official's inspectors authority to enforce Chapter 22 and to issue citations that must identify the alleged violator, the location and description of the violation, the date it was observed, the issuing officer, and the court date and address. Because Wylie has adopted the International codes with local amendments under this chapter, an outdoor kitchen project that involves gas piping, electrical circuits or a permanent structure is reviewed against those adopted codes at the same time the $200.00 fee is collected, and construction site prerequisites such as public water service to the site under Sec. 22-2 must also be satisfied before any permit issues.
