Under the Denton Development Code's exterior lighting standards (Section 7.11), soffit- or wall-mounted security lights on single-family, duplex, and townhouse dwellings skip the city's lighting review only if mounted no higher than the roof eave and aimed downcast, away from the neighboring lot. Any other building-mounted light, including wall-pack style floodlights on garages or additions, must direct all light downward, and wall packs are banned outright unless their cutoff angle keeps glare from crossing the property line. Light spillover onto adjacent parcels is capped at one foot-candle measured at the property line. Zoning violations carry fines up to $2,000 per day under the Code's general penalty section.
