Section 4.8.1.D lists reducing light trespass from light sources onto adjacent properties as a purpose of the ordinance. Section 4.8.3.D requires fixtures to be positioned and mounted so the light source or cone of light is not directed at or beyond any property line or right-of-way. Section 4.8.3.G caps light at 0.5 foot-candles measured at the property line for commercial uses abutting single-family residential property, and 4.8.3.H requires non-residential uses abutting single-family detached uses to reduce exterior illumination to 25 percent or less of normal levels from one hour after closing until one hour before opening. Single-family residential properties are exempt (Sec. 4.8.2), so neighbor-to-neighbor glare between homes is generally addressed as a nuisance rather than under these standards.
