Flower Mound enforces junked and inoperable vehicle regulations under Sec. 34-245 and TX Transportation Code Ch. 683. A vehicle is considered junked if it lacks a current license plate or safety certificate and is wrecked, dismantled, or inoperable for more than 72 hours on public property or 30 days on private property.
Under Flower Mound Sec. 34-245 and TX Transportation Code Ch. 683, a junked vehicle is defined as one that was originally designed to move under its own power and either lacks a lawfully attached unexpired license plate or valid motor vehicle safety inspection certificate, and is wrecked, dismantled, partially dismantled, or has remained inoperable for more than 72 consecutive hours on public property or 30 consecutive days on private property. A vehicle owner may store a vehicle on their property if it is screened from ordinary public view by appropriate means, including a fence, rapidly growing trees, or shrubbery. A tarp, car blanket, or similar covering does not satisfy the screening requirement. Junked vehicle violations must be corrected within 10 days of notice. The town may remove the vehicle and charge the owner for towing and storage costs. Code Enforcement at (972) 874-6350 handles complaints. TxDMV provides additional guidance on abandoned vehicle procedures statewide.
10-day correction notice. Fine up to $500 per day for non-compliance. Town may tow and impound at owner expense. Repeat offenders may face municipal court action.
