Lewisville enforces abandoned vehicle regulations through TX Transportation Code Ch. 683 and local property maintenance and nuisance codes. A vehicle is considered abandoned on public property if it is left unattended for more than 48 hours, is inoperable, or lacks current registration. Lewisville police place a 48-hour warning notice on suspected abandoned vehicles. If not moved within the notice period, the vehicle is towed to a city-authorized impound facility. On private property, junked or inoperable vehicles visible from the public right-of-way are enforced through property maintenance and nuisance codes. Vehicles must have current registration, be in operable condition, and not be in a state of disrepair (missing wheels, flat tires, broken windows). Lewisville Code Enforcement works with Lewisville PD on abandoned vehicle complaints. Vehicle owners may reclaim towed vehicles by paying towing and storage fees and providing proof of ownership. TX Health and Safety Code Ch. 757 provides additional authority for junked vehicle abatement.
