Hartford, CT Parking Rules: Abandoned Vehicles (2026)

Section 22-47 makes it unlawful to abandon a motor vehicle anywhere in the city and bars property owners, tenants or occupants from letting an abandoned or inoperable vehicle sit on their land, with narrow exceptions for enclosed buildings, active businesses, and a vehicle actively being restored (one at a time, parts stored inside the vehicle or a structure, not in required yard areas). After written notice to the owner and newspaper publication, the director of licenses and inspections may tow the vehicle at the owner's expense once it has sat unmoved for thirty days.
