Bristol, CT Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Bristol Code of Ordinances Sec. 14-70 restricts how commercial trucks can be kept in the City of Bristol, Connecticut's residential zones, defined by the Zoning Commission's official map as single-family, mixed-residential and multifamily districts. Subsection (a) bars any registered or unregistered commercial motor vehicle, and any unregistered noncommercial vehicle, from being parked or stored outdoors in a residential zone unless it fits one of the section's specific exceptions. Subsection (c) carves out active construction work: an unregistered but operational commercial vehicle may sit in a residential zone for up to ten continuous days if it is being actively used to build or repair a structure under a valid building permit.

Subsection (d) covers the one commercial vehicle a resident is allowed to keep: a single registered commercial vehicle under ten thousand pounds gross vehicle weight may be parked outdoors, but only outside the required front or side yards and at least ten feet from the rear property line, or it must be kept in a fully enclosed structure; a noncommercial garage in a residential zone may not be rented out for someone else's commercial vehicle. Subsection (e) makes the most restrictive rule control if this section conflicts with any other city ordinance, but exempts registered utility, telecommunications, medical-response and emergency vehicles that are parked temporarily at an on-call worker's home during a storm or civil emergency. The definitions in Sec. 14-69 set the residential-zone boundary and distinguish 'commercial' from 'noncommercial' motor vehicles for purposes of the whole division.
