Bristol, CT Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Bristol Code of Ordinances Sec. 14-36 limits every marked loading zone in the City of Bristol, Connecticut to vehicles that are actively loading or unloading materials, merchandise or passengers, and caps that activity at thirty minutes regardless of how many trips are made. Stopping, standing or parking in a loading zone for any other purpose, including running an errand or waiting for a delivery, converts the stop into an ordinary parking violation. Sec. 14-47(5) lists 'Parking in a loading zone' among the acts subject to an initial twenty-dollar penalty, the same schedule that governs meter overtime and sidewalk parking.

A Bristol police officer who finds a vehicle parked unlawfully in a loading zone records its registration and affixes a written notice under Sec. 14-40, warning that three or more unsatisfied citations on one vehicle can lead to impoundment or immobilization on a later violation. The registered owner has seven days to pay the tax collector; missing that window doubles the fine, and missing fourteen days triples it, under Sec. 14-40(c). An owner who disputes the citation may appeal to the city parking authority on the authority's own forms within five days of the notice, and the penalty is suspended until the appeal is heard at the authority's next public meeting under Sec.

14-43. Loading zones are separate from the metered spaces addressed in Division 2 of Chapter 14: Sec. 14-60 lets commercial-plated vehicles occupy a meter without depositing a coin specifically to load or unload, but that exception still requires the loading to be done 'as expeditiously as possible,' reinforcing the same no-lingering standard the thirty-minute loading-zone cap enforces citywide.
