Pismo Beach, CA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Two provisions of the Pismo Beach Municipal Code govern commercial vehicles, and they cover different conduct.

The parking rule is Section 17.34.030(E) of the 1998 Zoning Code. No commercial vehicle exceeding eight feet in height and/or twenty feet in combined total length, or towed equipment, can park between the hours of six p.m. and six a.m. on private property or public rights-of-way within residential zoning districts. The prohibition does not apply to construction sites during the construction process or to vehicles making deliveries or pickups. The section adds that further requirements for parking commercial and oversize vehicles are in Chapter 10.08 (Stopping, Standing, and Parking), which includes the oversize vehicle and trailer rules in Section 10.08.140.

The street-use rule is Section 10.12.030. On all city streets other than those listed in Sections 10.12.010 and 10.12.020, and except as otherwise authorized by the Director of Public Works or designee, no trucks or commercial vehicles, and no vehicles of any type with a total gross loaded weight over 8,000 pounds, are allowed. Trucks or commercial vehicles under 8,000 pounds gross loaded weight are permitted when necessary to make pickups or deliveries to a building on the restricted street. Deliveries of materials for bona fide repair, remodeling or construction of a building with a previously obtained building permit are also exempt. Deliveries must be shown by a bill of lading or other documentation acceptable to the chief of police, the director of public works, or their designees.

Passenger buses under Public Utilities Commission jurisdiction, public utility vehicles at work on utility construction or repair, and emergency vehicles are outside the section. Section 10.12.020 separately bars trucks and commercial vehicles from Pomeroy Street between Price and Cypress Streets, Cypress Street, and Ocean View Avenue between Cypress and Dolliver Streets, except for pickups and deliveries. Section 10.12.040 has the chief of police erect signs for the limits.

Pismo Beach uses two adopted zoning codes. The city's Zoning and Land Use page states that properties inside the Coastal Zone are regulated by the 1983 Zoning Code, and properties outside the Coastal Zone are regulated by the 1998 Zoning Code.
