Pismo Beach, CA Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Section 10.08.060 of the Pismo Beach Municipal Code lists the only curb colors the city uses, citing California Vehicle Code Section 21458(a). The rules attached to the colors apply to vehicles, bicycles, scooters and any other device propelled by human power or mechanical power, so a rider on a scooter is bound by a red curb just as a driver is.

Red indicates no stopping, standing or parking, whether the vehicle or device is attended or unattended. The one printed exception is a bus, which can stop in a red zone that is marked or sign posted as a bus loading zone. Yellow indicates stopping only to load or unload passengers or freight. White indicates stopping to load or unload passengers, or to deposit mail in an adjacent mailbox. Green indicates time limit parking. Blue limits parking exclusively to the vehicles of disabled persons and disabled veterans.

The section does not print a minute count for yellow, white or green zones. It ties the time to local ordinance and allows letters or official signs immediately adjacent to the curb that state the nature and duration of the restriction. Read those letters or signs together with the paint. No marks are placed on curbs except by or under the direction of an official properly authorized by the council, and when marks are in place no person can park in violation of them.

Blue curbs have their own rules in Section 10.08.080: the city manager designates the spaces, and blue curb spaces operate twenty-four hours a day, Sundays and holidays included. Section 10.08.050 requires a council resolution before any space is reserved and marked. Section 10.10.010 lists painting and marking of streets and curbs among the purposes paid for by parking meter and pay-and-display revenue in the paid parking zone.
