Full Breakdown

The rule lives in Chapter 225 of the City Code, § 225-24E, headed 'Truck parking.' Subsection E(2) keeps oversized commercial vehicles off residential streets entirely unless they are there to pick up or deliver goods. The companion clause E(1) allows loading in front of a business only long enough to move merchandise, and E(3) bars leaving any trailer, dumpster, or refuse container on a public way without written permission from the Department of Public Safety. 'Residential district' tracks the Chapter 240 Zoning definition. Saratoga Springs police enforce it as a Chapter 225 traffic violation.

Violations & Fines

Parking an over-limit truck or trailer on a residential street beyond a pickup or delivery is a Chapter 225 traffic violation, ticketed and towable by the Saratoga Springs Police Department under the city's removal-and-storage powers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I park my box truck overnight on my residential street?
Not if it exceeds five tons registered gross weight or 35 feet in length. § 225-24E(2) bars such vehicles from residential-district streets except while actively picking up or delivering merchandise.
Does a work van or pickup count?
No. The rule reaches only tractors, trailers, semitrailers, or trucks over five tons registered gross weight or longer than 35 feet. Lighter vehicles fall outside § 225-24E(2).
Can I leave a dumpster on the street?
Only with written permission. § 225-24E(3) forbids leaving any trailer, dumpster, or refuse container on a street or public way without approval from the Saratoga Springs Department of Public Safety.
