Franklin Township, PA Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

Franklin Township's curb-painting requirement is a design standard, not a public-street rule: it sits in § 22-612, Interior Circulation, inside Part 6, Site Design Standards, of the Subdivision and Land Development ordinance. It applies to a site plan going through Township review, such as a new commercial development, multi-family project or other land development, rather than to an existing homeowner's driveway or a public roadway. The section requires interior drives to be designed so vehicles entering or leaving a site are not blocked, with separate areas laid out for loading, unloading and refuse collection so those activities do not interfere with accessways or parking areas; internal drives themselves must be clearly marked by signs, curbing and painting.

The ordinance leaves the exact paint color, striping pattern and curb type to the design the applicant's engineer submits, subject to review by the Township Engineer and final approval by the Board of Supervisors. A related standard in the same Part, § 22-611, requires parking lots to be set back at least 10 feet from any public road or property line. Once a plan is approved, § 22-802 lets the Township Engineer inspect the installed improvements, including curbing, before certificates of occupancy are issued, and the plan cannot be recorded or building permits issued until required improvements or a performance guarantee are in place.
