Santa Rosa, CA Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

California Vehicle Code section 21458 sets the exclusive color scheme local authorities, including the County of Sonoma on county-maintained roads, may use when marking parking regulations with curb paint. Red indicates no stopping, standing, or parking, whether the vehicle is attended or unattended, except that a bus may stop in a red zone marked or signposted as a bus loading zone. Yellow indicates stopping only to load or unload passengers or freight for the time specified by local ordinance. White indicates stopping to load or unload passengers for the time specified by local ordinance or to deposit mail in an adjacent mailbox. Green indicates time-limit parking specified by local ordinance, and blue indicates parking limited exclusively to vehicles of disabled persons and disabled veterans. Under subdivision (b), regulations adopted under this scheme are effective on the days and during the hours or times prescribed by local ordinance. Property owners may not paint their own curbs; curb markings on county roads are installed under the authority of the county's traffic regulations.
