Carrollton, TX Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

40 of the Carrollton Code of Ordinances, the city's parking-regulations nuisance provision, sets two separate limits on how residential front yards can be used for vehicles. Subsection (A)(3) makes it unlawful to park or store a vehicle in a front yard "upon any surface other than an improved surface measuring a minimum of nine feet by 18 feet," so parking on bare grass, dirt, or gravel in the front yard is itself a violation regardless of how much of the yard is paved. " The two rules work together: an improved parking pad has to meet the nine-by-18 minimum, but the owner cannot pave over half the yard or more to create extra parking.

The same section separately requires side- and rear-yard parking to sit on an equivalent improved surface unless the vehicle is fully screened by a six-foot fence, wall, or evergreen hedge, and bars parking so a vehicle extends into the right-of-way, blocks a sidewalk, or obstructs a driveway. 99(A)(2)(f)'s $2,000 fine category, a driveway or parking surface out of compliance can draw fines up to that amount, with each day the condition continues counted as a separate offense.
