Grapevine requires driveways to be paved with concrete or approved hard surface, connect to a permitted driveway approach, and meet minimum width and setback standards. A driveway approach permit is required for new curb cuts, administered by the Public Works Department. Driveways in historic and floodplain areas face additional review.
Grapevine's Code of Ordinances and engineering standards require all residential driveways within city limits to be paved with concrete, asphalt, or approved pavers; gravel or dirt driveways are generally prohibited for vehicles regularly used on streets. Minimum residential driveway width is typically 10 feet, and single-family driveway approaches (the portion connecting a driveway to the street through the right-of-way) must be between 12 and 24 feet wide. Flared approaches are preferred at the curb. Corner lots and lots with multiple driveways must maintain minimum separation distances, usually 20 to 30 feet between driveways, to preserve on-street parking and sight distance. New driveways and curb cuts require a right-of-way permit from the Public Works Department and must be constructed by a licensed contractor or an approved homeowner following city specifications. Driveways cannot drain stormwater onto adjacent properties or obstruct street drainage. Circular drives in front yards may be allowed on lots meeting minimum frontage requirements, typically 100 feet of frontage. In the Historic Township Overlay, driveway design and materials may require HPC (Historic Preservation Commission) review to preserve street patterns. Impervious surface limits may further constrain driveway size in watershed overlay zones. Public Works contact: (817) 410-3330.
