Hinds County, MS Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Article XXI's Section 2101 General Requirements governs where vehicles can be parked on a lot in unincorporated Hinds County. 03(a) is direct: no parking space is allowed inside the minimum yards of any residential district except in the driveway of a single-family or two-family dwelling, so parking on the front lawn outside the paved driveway is not permitted. Commercial and industrial uses get more flexibility: their required front yards can count toward off-street parking or loading space, and side or rear yards can too, unless the use abuts a residential use or district, in which case no parking or loading is allowed in that abutting side or rear yard at all.

05 sets the physical dimensions: curb cuts (driveway openings through the curb) must be at least 25 feet wide at the street line for anything other than single-family and two-family residential uses, and driveways running through parking lots must be at least 20 feet wide with no parking allowed inside them. 06 adds a hydrant buffer: no parking space may be located within 10 feet of a fire hydrant, or within 20 feet if the hydrant sits at a street corner. 02 lets the Board of Supervisors approve an off-site parking location instead of on-parcel parking, but only where on-site parking is impractical, public safety or convenience favors it, and the Planning Commission has recommended it.
