Jackson, MS Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Sec. 118-347, 'Parking in front yard of any residential property,' makes it unlawful to park in a front yard, in a side yard on the street side of a corner lot, or in a rear yard abutting a public street, and unlawful to park over any part of a sidewalk or curb parallel to the public way, including the portion within a driveway. Subsection (b) lists five exceptions: improved spaces used for parking before the section's adoption with driveway or curb-cut access; any portion of a driveway located in the front, rear, or side yard except the sidewalk portion; parking within ten feet of the street edge where no curb exists, within the right-of-way, in an improved area; any improved area meeting zoning provisions as determined by the department of planning and development; and temporary parking in a yard for unloading, washing or similar purposes, provided the vehicle is removed once that purpose is done.

The section also exempts vehicles displaying a disabled person's plate or placard under MCA Sec. 27-19-56, exempts renter-occupied residences with no driveway or improved area, and exempts undersized residential lots that do not meet the minimum lot dimensions of Zoning Ordinance Sec. 4 and lack a driveway; owners in that last category may apply to the zoning administrator for a parking permit proving eligibility. 00 fine, with the city also able to seek an injunction against the conduct.
