Acworth, GA Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Acworth Code of Ordinances § 90-52 makes it unlawful to park any vehicle in a space designated for electric vehicle charging unless it is a rechargeable electric vehicle that is actively being charged at the charging station. The restriction is narrowly tied to active charging, so a plug-in vehicle parked in the space without being connected and drawing a charge does not satisfy the exception. Violations are punished with a $50 fine, which is declared delinquent and doubled to $100 if it is not paid within ten working days of the citation being issued, mirroring the escalation structure used for general overtime parking in § 90-45 but at double the base amount.

Beyond ticketing, § 90-52(b)(2) separately authorizes the police department to have the vehicle towed at the owner's expense for parking illegally in an electric vehicle charging space, so towing is available in addition to, not instead of, the citation. The section was adopted by Ordinance No. 2016-09 on February 18, 2016; an editor's note in the code explains that the same ordinance was originally numbered § 90-51 but was renumbered to § 90-52 to avoid a conflict with the existing public parking restrictions section that already carried that number.
