Akron, OH Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Section 76.211 sets Akron's rule for the loading zones the city posts along commercial streets. It defines a 'loading zone' narrowly, as any area that has actually been designated and posted for loading and unloading, meaning the restriction only bites where signage exists, not on every stretch of curb outside a business. It also defines the only kind of vehicle allowed to use one: a 'delivery vehicle,' meaning a vehicle used for the main or exclusive purpose of commercial delivery that displays a commercial license plate issued by the state. An ordinary passenger car, even one making a quick delivery run, does not qualify unless it carries that commercial plate.

Subsection B is a flat exclusivity rule: no vehicle other than a qualifying delivery vehicle may park in a posted loading zone at all, regardless of how briefly. Subsection C then layers on two more limits for the delivery vehicles that are allowed in: they may only use the zone during the hours actually posted on the sign, and once parked, they cannot stay longer than fifteen minutes. Together the definition and the two operating rules mean a loading zone functions as a narrow-purpose curb space reserved for commercial deliveries within a fixed time window, rather than general-purpose commercial parking.
