Fulton County, GA Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

6 of the Fulton County Zoning Resolution applies only in unincorporated Fulton County; sites inside Atlanta, Sandy Springs and the county's other cities follow their own municipal codes instead. 1 requires that off-street loading spaces "shall be provided as follows," with the count scaled by two variables at once: the building's gross floor area and its use type. Retail stores, shopping centers, offices, hospitals, manufacturing plants and recycling centers each carry their own space requirements in the table, so two buildings of identical size can owe different numbers of loading berths.

As one example from the table, a shopping center of 20,000 to 49,999 square feet needs one loading space. 2 fixes the physical minimums: every required space must measure at least 12 feet by 35 feet and provide 14 feet of vertical clearance, so the berth itself, not the street, absorbs the truck. 3 then controls placement. Loading spaces and maneuvering areas may occupy only those portions of a lot where off-street parking areas are allowed, and where they adjoin a residential use, a 50-foot landscaped strip must be established, with the berths and maneuvering spaces located behind it. That strip is a hard separation between truck activity and neighboring homes, not an optional screening choice. The resolution sets no loading-dock operating hours.
