Brooklyn Park, MN Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 72.08, last amended by Ord. 2023-1292 in September 2023, imposes a seasonal overnight parking ban: from November 1 of one year through March 31 of the next, it is unlawful to park a vehicle on any Brooklyn Park street between 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., with the only exception written into the code being a physician responding to an emergency call. The ban runs regardless of whether snow is actually falling, which distinguishes it from the separate snow-emergency parking rule in § 72.11; a car can be legally parked on a clear October night but ticketed at 3:00 a.m. on a clear January night purely because of the calendar.

Section 72.09 layers on a year-round 24-hour rule: no vehicle may sit parked on a Brooklyn Park street for more than 24 consecutive hours regardless of season, closing off long-term street storage even outside the winter window. Both sections trace to the original 1972 traffic code (Ord. 1983-424) and are enforced by the Brooklyn Park Police Department, which may tag and, after the applicable notice period, tow a vehicle left in violation. Because neither section states its own penalty, a citation defaults to the misdemeanor penalty of § 10.99, up to 90 days or a $1,000 fine, or the city's administrative citation program under § 37.03 with its $2,000 civil-penalty ceiling.
