Edison Township restricts overnight parking on many residential and commercial streets under Chapter 7 (Traffic) of the Edison Township Code. The schedules of overnight-restricted streets are updated by ordinance β most recently Ord. O.2244-2025 (February 26, 2025). Restrictions commonly target oversized, recreational and commercial vehicles, and some blocks restrict all overnight parking.
Chapter 7 of the Edison Township Code contains the schedules of streets where overnight parking is restricted, including 'no parking 2 a.m. - 6 a.m.' or similar overnight windows on designated blocks, and broader prohibitions on overnight parking of recreational vehicles, trailers, boats, and commercial vehicles over 4 tons on residential streets. The schedules are amended by Council ordinance; the most recent amendment of record is Ord. O.2244-2025, adopted February 26, 2025. Some residential neighborhoods have permit-parking programs that allow residents to obtain overnight permits while keeping the street restricted for non-residents. Outside of restricted blocks, ordinary passenger vehicles may park overnight in compliance with state-law setbacks (10 ft from a hydrant, 25 ft from a stop sign or intersection). Edison Police enforce overnight restrictions through tickets and, for oversized or recreational vehicles, towing.
Overnight-parking violations on restricted streets are payable parking tickets with fines set in the township's parking-fine schedule under Chapter 7 and the state-law framework (N.J.S.A. 39:4-26 et seq.). Repeat or aggravated violations and overnight parking of restricted vehicle types (RVs, trailers, commercial vehicles over 4 tons) can lead to towing at the owner's expense and the general penalty under Chapter 1 Β§1-5 (up to $50 or 15 days).
