Walton County, FL Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Rather than fixing one overnight parking rule for the whole county, Section 20-14 gives the county administrator or a designee the authority to designate public areas within unincorporated Walton County as "no parking" areas, "limited time parking areas," "specific use parking areas," or "paid parking areas," based on the safety hazard the parking would create for traffic or pedestrians, or damage to the right-of-way. Once an area is posted as a "no parking" zone under subsection (1), no vehicle may park there at all. Once signs go up under subsection (2) designating a limited-time area, "no person shall stop, stand, or park a vehicle for longer than the time designated by such signs or at any time between those hours so stated by such signs," which is how the county actually implements overnight parking bans on specific streets, beach-access roads, and public lots, rather than through a blanket ordinance.

Law enforcement, fire, ambulance, and board vehicles are exempt while performing public-service duties. The Walton County Sheriff's Office and county-designated Code Compliance Parking Enforcement Specialists (CCPES) enforce these postings under Section 20-2, and a violation is processed as a non-criminal citation under Sections 20-30 through 20-32: the violator has 30 days to pay the scheduled fine (set by board resolution under Section 20-31) or request a hearing before the Code Compliance Special Magistrate. The county adopted this framework, along with the rest of Chapter 20, by Ordinance No. 2025-19 on October 28, 2025, replacing older parking rules.
