South Fulton's Code of Ordinances (Title 8) prohibits parking any vehicle in a license-weight category over 26,000 pounds, and any non-motorized vehicle or conveyance, on residential rights-of-way between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Zoning Sec. 607 also bars storing heavy trucks and trailers over 4 tons empty in residential districts.
South Fulton restricts oversized and heavy vehicles through both its Code of Ordinances and its Zoning Ordinance. Under Title 8 (Traffic and Vehicles), it is unlawful to park, between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on the right-of-way of any residential street, ramp, road, or highway under the city's jurisdiction, any non-motorized vehicle or conveyance, or any motorized vehicle designated by the Georgia Department of Public Safety for a license tag in any weight category higher than 26,000 pounds. Exceptions apply to construction vehicles, trailers, or equipment temporarily within an active construction area for dwellings under construction, and to recreation/noncommercial trailers and boats being transported along the street. On private property, the city Zoning Ordinance Sec. 607 prohibits storing or parking commercial trucks and heavy vehicles, and any trailer exceeding 4 tons empty weight, in any agricultural or residential zoning district unless engaged in moving household goods or making deliveries. Heavy construction equipment (earth-moving equipment, tractors, etc.) may be parked in residential, agricultural, and most non-residential districts only during construction under an active building or land-disturbance permit. Title 8 oversized/heavy-vehicle violations carry escalating fines.
Parking a vehicle over 26,000 lbs license weight (or a non-motorized conveyance) on a residential right-of-way overnight violates Title 8, with fines of $500 first offense, $750 second, $1,000 each additional. Storing a heavy truck or 4-plus-ton trailer in a residential/AG district violates Sec. 607 and is enforced by Code Enforcement.
