South Fulton, GA Landscaping Rules: Weed Ordinances (2026)

The City of South Fulton folds weed control into its property-maintenance code rather than a standalone weed statute. Sec. 3-3001 (Maintenance of Proper Sanitary Conditions) obligates every owner, holder, or occupant to keep premises in a clean and sanitary condition with all weeds cut. Developed premises and exterior property must be free of grass, weeds, or uncultivated vegetation exceeding six inches in height, and weeds must be contained so they do not encroach on adjoining property. The same section's duty to maintain a clean and sanitary condition includes cutting and removing undergrowth - specifically kudzu, briars, weeds in excess of 24 inches in height, honeysuckle, other vines, and seedlings - whenever that undergrowth becomes a nuisance to people living or doing business in the area. The standard is not applied to undeveloped property, or to parts of developed property the owner intends to leave in a natural state, which protects genuine meadow and conservation plantings from being treated as a weed violation. Owners of developed property must also maintain the adjacent right-of-way to the curb.
