South Fulton's Zoning Ordinance (Sec. 607) allows recreational vehicles, campers, boats, and boat trailers to be parked or stored in all residential districts, but only if they are not used as living quarters and are kept in the buildable area of the lot, not in front of the principal structure.
The City of South Fulton incorporated in 2017 and maintains its own Code of Ordinances. Recreational vehicle and boat storage is governed by the city Zoning Ordinance (Appendix C), Sec. 607 (Prohibited Off-Street Parking and Storage). Sec. 607 expressly permits 'specialized vehicles such as recreational vehicles, campers, buses (including school buses), trailers, mobile home coaches, boats, boat trailers, and limousines' to be parked or stored in all residential districts under two conditions: (1) such vehicles are not used as living quarters; and (2) the parking or storage area must be in the buildable area of the lot and shall not be in front of the principal structure. Separately, Sec. 607 makes it unlawful to keep more than four visible vehicles at a single-family residence. On public streets, the city Code of Ordinances (Title 8, Traffic and Vehicles) prohibits parking non-motorized vehicles or conveyances and very heavy vehicles on residential rights-of-way between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., with an exception for recreation/noncommercial trailers and boats being transported to and from locations along the street. The state abandoned-vehicle process (O.C.G.A. ch. 40-11) can apply to long-stored units.
Storing an RV or boat in the front yard, ahead of the principal structure, or using it as living quarters violates Sec. 607 of the Zoning Ordinance; keeping more than four visible vehicles at a single-family residence is also unlawful. Enforcement is by Code Enforcement, typically a notice of violation with an abatement period before a citation to municipal court.
