Longmont prohibits parking a sleeper vehicle (camper coach, camper trailer, motor home, multi-purpose trailer, trailer coach, or recreational vehicle) on any public street, alley, or right-of-way without a temporary permit. The ban was adopted by the City Council in November 2020 and took effect January 1, 2021, codified in Longmont Municipal Code (LMC) Chapter 11.12. A 7-day permit is available from Code Enforcement for $25, capped at four per vehicle per calendar year, with no back-to-back issuance.
Under LMC 11.12.030 and the city's RV/Sleeper Vehicle program, a 'sleeper vehicle' is defined as a camper coach, camper trailer, motor home, multi-purpose trailer, trailer coach, or recreational vehicle, and includes any vehicle converted to serve as temporary living or sleeping accommodation. Sleeper vehicles may not remain parked on Longmont public streets, alleys, or other public rights-of-way without an active parking permit issued under LMC 11.12.045. The only exception is active loading or unloading. When the city issues an abandoned-vehicle or sleeper-vehicle notice, the owner must either remove the vehicle entirely from the public way or obtain a temporary permit; relocating it within the same block does not satisfy the ordinance. Permits cost $25 for a 7-day window, are limited to four per vehicle per calendar year, and may not be issued back-to-back; once a permit expires, the sleeper vehicle may not be parked on the public way for the next seven days. Contractor trailers used during active repairs or alterations are governed separately and may remain on the street up to 180 days when a conspicuous dated notice with the job-site address and contact information is posted. On private property, the Longmont Municipal Code prohibits the use of a sleeper vehicle as an accessory dwelling unit on a residential zoned lot. Enforcement is largely complaint-driven; Code Enforcement (303-651-8695) and Longmont Police (303-651-8555) administer the program.
Parking a sleeper vehicle on a Longmont public street, alley, or right-of-way without a current permit violates LMC Chapter 11.12 and is subject to citation, marking, and tow at the owner's expense after notice. Using a sleeper vehicle as an occupied accessory dwelling on a residential lot is a separate code violation under LMC Chapter 11.12. Apply for the 7-day RV/Sleeper permit through the city's online portal or by calling Code Enforcement at 303-651-8695.
