Chicopee, MA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 260-17 of the Code of the City of Chicopee lists where no person can stand or park a vehicle: within an intersection (with an exception for intersections where the Department of Public Works, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, has approved parking meters); upon any sidewalk; upon a way within five feet of a marked crosswalk; upon the roadway in a rural or sparsely settled district; upon any roadway where parking will not leave a clear and unobstructed lane at least 10 feet wide for passing traffic; within 10 feet of a fire hydrant; upon or in front of any private road or driveway; within 20 feet of an intersecting way, except alleys; within 15 feet of a fire station wall or directly across from it where signs are erected; on a bridge and the approach thereto; within five feet of either side of a driveway; and on City-owned tree belts, medians and traffic islands. Vehicles found in violation can be moved by or under the direction of an officer at the owner's expense.

The wrong-way rule is in subsection E. Where parking is permitted, both wheels on the right side of the vehicle must be within 12 inches of the curb or edge of the roadway. On one-way streets, vehicles must be parked in the direction in which the vehicle is moving with both wheels within 12 inches of the curb. Angle parking streets are excepted.

Other Chapter 260 sections add limits. Section 260-22 lets passenger vehicles stop for not more than five minutes continuously to receive or discharge passengers at the entrances of a school, church, theater, hotel, hospital, railroad station, public building or place of public assemblage, and bars nonmotorized vehicles such as boats, trailers and campers from parking on public streets for more than 48 hours. Recreational vehicles of 26,001 pounds or more, over 20 feet in length or designed for overnight occupancy are limited to eight hours a day. Section 260-25 makes it unlawful to park on a street any vehicle displayed for sale. Section 260-29 sets the severe weather rule: when the Mayor announces it, parking is allowed only on the even side in even-numbered years and the odd side in odd-numbered years.

Section 260-11B makes § 260-17K (bridges) effective only while official signs are erected. Under § 260-5, when the driver cannot be identified, the registered owner is held prima facie responsible.
