Council Bluffs, IA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

CBMC 9.32.010, adopted by Ordinance 5816 in 2004, sets out the city's baseline no-stopping-no-standing-no-parking list, applying to any motor vehicle, trailer, or recreational vehicle unless a police officer, emergency worker, or traffic control device says otherwise. Beyond the driveway, hydrant, crosswalk, and intersection clauses, the section also bars parking between a sidewalk and its adjacent curb or within twenty feet of a sidewalk's curb ends, within fifty feet of a railroad crossing unless parked parallel with no red light showing, within twenty feet of either side of a municipal fire station driveway and within seventy-five feet across the street from one when posted, alongside a street excavation that would block traffic flow, on the roadway side of another legally parked vehicle, and on a bridge, elevated structure, or inside a highway tunnel.

CBMC 9.32.050 lets the mayor post additional no-parking signs near schools where parking would create a hazard, and CBMC 9.32.060 does the same on streets narrower than 20 feet, or one side of streets under 30 feet. CBMC 9.32.080 bars parking on the left side of a divided one-way roadway absent signs allowing it. Chapter 9.32's other schedules, the continuous and partial prohibited-parking lists and time-limited zones, are incorporated by reference under CBMC 9.32.130 through 9.32.150 and require posted signs or meters under CBMC 9.32.160 before they can be enforced.
