Decatur, GA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

City Code § 98-16, Supplemental parking regulations, splits into two prohibitions. Subsection (a) bars standing, stopping or parking a vehicle on a public roadway for displaying the vehicle for sale, for washing, greasing or repairing it (except emergency repairs, which must be finished and the vehicle moved or towed with all due haste), or for displaying advertising. Subsection (b) separately prohibits stopping, standing or parking between the front building line and the front property line of a residence, except on a bona fide paved or graveled driveway leading to a garage, carport or other permanent parking space located to the rear of the front building line.

Circular driveways leading to and from a street are permitted, but subsection (b)(2) makes clear they may not be used to create a parking space that conflicts with the front-yard ban. Subsection (b)(3) closes the loophole further: paved parking areas are not permitted between the front building line and front property line unless the zoning board of appeals has approved a variance under the zoning ordinance. The section was adopted by Ord. No. O-95-19 on December 20, 1995, and sits within Chapter 98, Article I, alongside related street-use rules such as § 98-9's resident parking only districts (enforced by posted signage naming over 35 specific street segments) and § 98-18's ban on parking on streets narrower than 20 feet where no-parking signs have been posted.
