On Hemet streets, a vehicle may stay in one spot for no more than 72 hours without being moved, and it must be operable, currently registered and legally parked. Overnight street parking is prohibited citywide under Hemet Municipal Code Section 78-107.
The City of Hemet sets its own on-street parking limits that go beyond the California Vehicle Code baseline. Per the City's Code Compliance FAQ, "Vehicles may be parked in any one spot on the street for no more than 72 hours without moving," and the vehicle "must be operable, currently licensed/registered and parked legally." Suspected 72-hour violations are handled by the Hemet Police Department, which residents can reach at 951-765-2400. Separately, Hemet Municipal Code Section 78-107 establishes that "No overnight street parking is allowed City wide" - a city rule that is notably stricter than state law, which would otherwise allow overnight street parking subject only to the 72-hour removal provision of Vehicle Code 22651(k). In practice this means a legally parked passenger car still cannot remain on a Hemet street overnight, and even during the day it must be moved before 72 continuous hours elapse. Street-sweeping days add a further restriction: the City asks residents to keep vehicles off the street on their scheduled sweeping day so the CR&R sweepers can reach the curb. Drivers should watch for posted signs, colored curbs and sweeping schedules, all of which can impose tighter limits than the general 72-hour and overnight rules.
Leaving a vehicle in one street spot over 72 hours, parking overnight on any city street or alley, or parking an inoperable or unregistered vehicle on the street may be cited. Report concerns to Hemet Police at 951-765-2400.
