Menifee allows vehicles and trailers to park on city streets for no more than 72 consecutive hours in one location. After 72 hours the vehicle must be moved more than 500 feet away, and once tagged by enforcement it cannot simply shuffle within that 500-foot radius.
Menifee Municipal Code Section 12.20.030, adopted by Ordinance No. 2009-51 (July 21, 2009), prohibits parking or leaving standing any vehicle or trailer on a city highway for more than 72 consecutive hours. The ordinance defines 'same location' as anywhere within a 500-foot radius of the original spot, closing the loophole of moving a car a few spaces down. Once enforcement personnel tag a vehicle for a 72-hour violation, it may not be re-parked anywhere within 500 feet of the original location. Section 12.20.050 separately prohibits parking where signs are posted or curbs are painted giving notice of a restriction. Under Section 12.20.040, violating vehicles may be removed (towed) pursuant to California Vehicle Code Sections 22650 and 22850 and Chapter 12.01 of the Menifee code.
Violations are infractions punishable by a fine established by the California Vehicle Code, and each day a violation continues is a separate offense (Section 12.20.190). Vehicles parked over 72 hours may be cited and towed under California Vehicle Code Sections 22650 and 22850 (Section 12.20.040). Paying a fine does not relieve the owner of the duty to correct the violation.
