Montgomery County, VA Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Sec 6-52, in Article III (Stopping, Standing and Parking) of the traffic chapter, bars parking any automobile, truck or other automotive equipment on or alongside any road, highway or street of the county, or of the state within the county, when the parking is done in pursuance of a commercial purpose, such as using the shoulder as a sales lot or staging point for a business. The section carries one express exception: it does not apply to motor vehicle carriers, meaning buses or similar carriers, when they are picking up or discharging passengers along the route.

Chapter 6 does not set a specific fine for Sec 6-52, so a violation is punished under the chapter's general penalty in Sec 6-1, a fine of not more than one hundred dollars. Sec 6-53 gives the county administrator authority to contract with garages or storage lots to remove and store vehicles parked in violation of Sec 6-52, with the county paying reasonable removal and storage costs and the contracted operator required to release the vehicle to its owner on proof of ownership and payment of those charges.

Because Sec 6-3 excludes incorporated towns from Chapter 6, this on-street commercial-parking rule governs county roads outside Blacksburg and Christiansburg; those towns set their own street-parking rules within their limits.
