Peoria street parking is governed by Peoria Code Chapter 28 (Traffic and Motor Vehicles), Article VII (Stopping, Standing and Parking). Downtown Peoria has metered parking enforced 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday by the Peoria Police Department's Parking Enforcement unit, with rates and time limits posted on each meter or pay station. Bradley University-area residential blocks operate under a residential permit-parking program where non-permitted vehicles are limited to two hours during posted hours. The City also restricts parking near hydrants (15 feet), driveways, intersections (20 feet), and crosswalks under the Illinois Vehicle Code 625 ILCS 5/11-1303.
Peoria Code Chapter 28, Article VII Divisions 2 (Parking Meters) and 3 (Stopping, Standing and Parking Prohibited in Specified Places) lay out the street-parking framework. Downtown metered zones (Main Street corridor, Warehouse District, Civic Center area) typically enforce 1- to 2-hour meter limits between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with Sundays and posted holidays free in most zones. Pay-by-app via the City's parking system is also available. The Bradley University neighborhood operates a residential permit-parking program administered by the Peoria Public Works Department: residents purchase an annual permit (typically $25-$50) that exempts them from posted 2-hour time limits during the enforcement window. Visitors and non-permitted vehicles are limited to the posted period. The Illinois Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5/11-1303) β which Peoria adopts by reference in Chapter 28 β prohibits stopping, standing, or parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, within 30 feet of a stop sign or flashing signal, in front of a public or private driveway, on a sidewalk, in a marked bus stop, or in a marked taxi stand. Special event blackout zones (Cubs of the Cornfield rivalry games, Civic Center events, Riverfront festivals) may impose temporary no-parking restrictions with signage posted at least 24 hours in advance. Snow emergency routes have separate winter rules under Section 28-386 (see Overnight Parking).
Standard parking-meter and time-limit violations carry citations typically $20-$50 per occurrence, escalating for non-payment. Hydrant, crosswalk, and driveway violations under 625 ILCS 5/11-1303 carry $50-$100 fines with tow risk. Permit-zone violations in the Bradley area run $25-$75. Unpaid parking citations after 30 days are subject to a Peoria Administrative Adjudication hearing and may be referred to a collection agency or to the Illinois Secretary of State for license-plate registration hold.
