Taylor, MI Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Taylor City Code Sec. 48-185 lists ten places where a vehicle may not be parked absent a traffic-control device, police direction, or unavoidable traffic conflict: on a sidewalk; in front of a public or private driveway; within 15 feet of a fire hydrant; on a crosswalk; within 20 feet of a crosswalk (or 15 feet of an intersection's property-line corners where no crosswalk exists); wherever an official sign bars stopping or parking; in a disabled-parking space without the required plate, placard, or certificate described in MCL 257.675 and MCL 257.803d; in an access aisle next to a disabled space; in violation of a posted time or manner restriction; or in a way that blocks a marked fire lane.

The section, adopted by Ordinance No. 2014-483 on March 18, 2014, works together with Sec. 48-184, which lets the chief of police deputize non-officer volunteers to issue parking citations for these ten violations and add or remove volunteers from that authorized list at his or her discretion. Section 48-186 sets the penalty: any person who violates Sec. 48-185 is responsible for a civil infraction and pays the fines and costs set by the 23rd District Court under MCL 257.907(7). Blocking a driveway or parking too close to a hydrant or crosswalk corner are the complaints the Taylor Police Department fields most often across the city's Heritage Park and Taylortucky neighborhoods, and officers or the volunteer citation program can ticket on sight without waiting for a resident complaint.
