Taylor, MI Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 15.10 of Taylor's Zoning Appendix A splits commercial vehicle parking by district and weight. In nonresidential districts, trucks and other commercial vehicles cannot park or be stored longer than 24 hours unless the vehicle is accessory to a permitted use and the planning commission has approved the parking and storage location as part of the site plan. In residential districts, the rule is far tighter: subsection (b) allows only commercial vehicles under 10,000 pounds that are pickup trucks or vans, and even those must park on a designated paved parking area rather than grass, gravel, or the street.

Subsection (c) is an outright ban: any commercial vehicle over 10,000 pounds is prohibited from parking in a residential district or on a city street located in a residential district, with no exception, permit, or special land use process available to allow it. That means a resident cannot park a box truck, semi tractor, dump truck, or similar heavy commercial vehicle in front of or beside a house, even temporarily, once it crosses the 10,000-pound threshold. This section was last amended by Ordinance No. 24-519 on November 6, 2024, keeping the weight-based residential ban in its current form.
