Livonia prohibits parking commercial vehicles over one-ton rating, semi-trailers, and heavy equipment on residential streets or driveways. Commercial trucks must be stored at the place of business.
Chapter 15 (Zoning) of the Livonia City Code restricts commercial vehicle storage in residential districts. Any truck, tractor, trailer, semi-trailer, bus, or other commercial vehicle exceeding a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or carrying commercial lettering and equipment above a certain size may not be parked or stored overnight on a residential lot or on a public street in a residential zone. Pickups and vans used for personal transportation are generally allowed if within size limits and lacking ladder racks or heavy commercial equipment. Contractors and tradespeople who operate vehicles from home must park them at their commercial place of business overnight, consistent with the home occupation restrictions that bar outdoor commercial storage. Enforcement is handled by the Livonia Police Department and the Inspection Department through the zoning ordinance.
