Owners of vacant or unimproved lots in Davie must keep them clear of weeds, wild growth, undergrowth, rubbish and debris under Town Code section 9-51. After a certified-mail notice giving seven days, the Town can clear the lot and place a lien for the cost. Abandoned-property owners are also asked to register with the Town.
Davie applies the same property-condition rule to undeveloped land as to occupied homes. Town Code section 9-51(b) requires the owner or occupant of property 'zoned for other than agricultural use' to clear and destroy all weeds, wild growth and undergrowth, and subsection (a) requires removal of rubbish, debris, trash and unsightly or unsanitary matter. The enforcement path under subsection (c) is a certified-mail notice (sent to the address shown on the tax-collector roll for owners, and to the property address for occupants) giving seven (7) days to comply. If the owner does not act, subsection (d) lets the Town clear the property and impose all costs โ plus collection costs and a reasonable attorney's fee โ as a lien recorded in the Broward County public records and collectible by foreclosure. Agricultural-zoned land (Davie retains a significant rural/agricultural character) is exempted from the weed-clearing requirement. The Code Compliance Division also maintains an Abandoned Property Registration program and links a registration form for owners of vacant or abandoned structures. There is no published numeric grass-height threshold in the Town Code for this section; enforcement is based on the 'weeds, wild growth and undergrowth' and 'unsightly or unsanitary' standards.
Overgrown or trash-strewn vacant lots are reported to Code Compliance (954-693-8237 or the online complaint form). The inspector issues a certified-mail notice under section 9-51 with a seven-day cure period; non-compliance leads to Town abatement and a recorded lien, and the matter may be heard by the Special Magistrate.
