Galloway Township Code Β§ 267-15 requires all vacant structures, premises and vacant land to be maintained in a clean, safe, secure and sanitary condition so as not to cause a blighting problem or public nuisance. The Abandoned Real Property chapter declares all abandoned real property a public nuisance whose abatement is necessary for residents' health, welfare and safety. Mortgagees holding a mortgage on Galloway property must inspect for vacancy upon filing a Summons and Complaint and register the property with Code Enforcement within 10 days. Properties must be secured so they are inaccessible to unauthorized persons, including locking windows, doors and gates a child could enter.
Abandoned-property violations: fine of not less than $1,500, up to 90 days imprisonment and/or up to 90 days community service; each day is a separate offense.
