Cedar Rapids, IA Public Conduct: Jaywalking (2026)

Cedar Rapids Municipal Code § 61.055 requires any pedestrian who crosses a roadway outside a marked crosswalk, or outside an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, to yield the right-of-way to all vehicles on that roadway. Where traffic signals are operating at a location that isn't an intersection, pedestrians may cross only within a marked crosswalk: crossing elsewhere is prohibited outright. Drivers still owe pedestrians a duty of due care under the companion § 61.056, but the yield burden in this section falls on the person crossing, and Cedar Rapids police enforce it citywide.
