Full Breakdown

Cedar Rapids' bicycle and micromobility code (Chapter 53) defines "micromobility device" to expressly include skateboards and motorized skateboards. Section 53.14 bars riding one on sidewalks within the downtown core - bounded by 2nd Street SW to 5th Street East and 1st Avenue to 16th Avenue SW - unless a posted sign specifically allows it. The same section separately bans skateboarding on any city-owned public property, such as parking lots, parking ramps, or the Tree of Five Seasons, wherever signs or markings prohibit it.

Violations & Fines

Riding in violation of § 53.14 is a municipal infraction under Municipal Code § 1.12, enforced with civil penalties and other relief under Iowa Code § 364.22; each day of violation is a separate offense.
