Lexington became one of the earlier Kentucky cities to enact comprehensive indoor smoke-free protections, with LFUCG Code prohibiting smoking in enclosed workplaces, restaurants, bars, retail establishments, and public buildings. Outdoor smoking remains generally lawful but is prohibited near building entrances at LFUCG facilities and in some park areas. The ordinance covers cigarettes, cigars, and certain e-cigarette/vape products under amended provisions. Enforcement is primarily complaint-driven through the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, with citations issued to establishment operators rather than individual smokers in most cases.
