Lexington, KY Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 18-119 lists fourteen specific places where stopping, standing or parking a vehicle is prohibited, all built around keeping intersections, crossings and safety infrastructure clear. Besides the driveway, hydrant, sidewalk, intersection and crosswalk restrictions, the list bars parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, within 30 feet on the approach to a flashing beacon, stop sign or roadside traffic signal, in any street park area or parkway median, within 20 feet of a fire station driveway (and within 75 feet on the opposite side of the street from a station entrance, if properly signposted), alongside a street excavation or obstruction that would obstruct traffic, on the roadway side of another parked vehicle, on a bridge or elevated structure, anywhere official signs or markings prohibit it, and anywhere the curb is painted yellow.

The one blanket exception covers a driver who has to stop briefly to avoid a traffic conflict, comply with the law, or follow a police officer's or traffic-control device's directions: an emergency stop in one of these zones isn't itself a violation. The section also reaches third parties: moving someone else's vehicle into one of these prohibited spots, or moving it away from a curb an unlawful distance, is treated the same as parking there yourself. LFUCG's parking control officers, employed by or under the Lexington and Fayette County Parking Authority, are specifically authorized to issue citations for § 18-119 violations alongside sworn police officers.
