LFUCG restricts parking of recreational vehicles, boats, and trailers in residential districts to driveways or side and rear yards, prohibits parking on unimproved surfaces, and bars use of street-parked RVs as living quarters. On-street RV parking is limited to short loading and unloading periods, typically no more than 24 to 48 hours.
Lexington-Fayette's zoning ordinance treats RVs, travel trailers, boats, utility trailers, and large recreational equipment as regulated outdoor storage in single-family and two-family residential zones. These vehicles may generally be stored on a paved driveway or in a side or rear yard, but not in the front yard forward of the principal dwelling other than on an approved driveway. Storage on grass, bare dirt, or other unimproved surfaces is prohibited because it conflicts with lot coverage and stormwater rules. RVs stored on private property must be owned by a resident of the dwelling, must be in operable condition with current registration if required, and cannot be used for habitation β sleeping, cooking, or extended living β while parked at a residence, except for brief visits by guests where allowed. On-street parking of RVs, boats, and trailers is generally allowed only for short-term loading and unloading, typically not more than 24 to 48 consecutive hours, and is forbidden overnight on many collector and arterial streets. Larger commercial-sized trucks and trailers are restricted from residential on-street parking under separate commercial vehicle rules. HOA covenants in neighborhoods such as Andover, Beaumont, and Hamburg often impose stricter standards than LFUCG, including complete bans on visible RV storage. Violations generate notices from LFUCG Code Enforcement and can escalate to civil fines.
