Sheriff deputies and park rangers may issue citations. Special-event permits, including some Coachella Valley winery events and licensed festivals such as Stagecoach in Indio, may authorize designated alcohol areas under tightly regulated conditions.
Open container in public is an infraction with up to $250 fine. Repeat or aggravated violations may be charged as misdemeanor public intoxication under Penal Code section 647(f).
