Mount Pleasant, SC Public Conduct: Public Alcohol Use (2026)

Chapter 113 of the Mount Pleasant Code of Ordinances addresses public alcohol conduct in two adjoining sections. 03, 'Drinking in Public Places,' bars any person from drinking an alcoholic beverage on the streets, parks, or public places in the municipality unless that location is licensed for on-premises consumption, meaning open containers are off-limits on sidewalks, in town parks, and along public rights-of-way even though a licensed restaurant or bar patio a few feet away may lawfully serve the same drink. 04, 'Drunkenness in Public,' separately makes it unlawful to be drunk or intoxicated in any street, public house, place of amusement, worship, or other public place in town, reaching visible intoxication itself rather than just the open container.

Neither section carries its own stated fine, so both fall back to the Chapter 10 general penalty, Sec. C. Code Sec. 5-7-30. These public-alcohol rules sit alongside Sec. , Monday through Saturday, at any licensed club, store or beer parlor, reinforcing that the town closely restricts where and when alcohol may be consumed outside a private home.
