Pocatello, ID Public Conduct: Public Alcohol Use (2026)

Section 12.36.050 of the Pocatello City Code splits park alcohol rules by beverage type. Subsection A flatly bars selling, consuming, or possessing liquor or spirits in any Municipal park, no exceptions. Subsection B bars beer and wine in parks too, but carves out specified areas within Ross Park, Bonneville Park, Raymond Park, Centennial Park, Sister City Park, OK Ward Park, Alameda Park, Ammon Park, and the Fort Hall Replica for beer and wine consumption with a special permit under section 12.36.060; licensed vendors may also sell canned beer, draft beer, and wine by the drink at named ball fields such as Tydeman/Optimist Fields and Bill Durham Memorial Field during City sponsored league play, sanctioned tournaments, or other approved uses.

Subsection C exempts the City's own golf courses from the sale, consumption, or possession prohibition entirely. Subsection D requires parks to be properly posted with these rules. The permit itself, issued under section 12.36.060, bars alcohol in playground areas and glass alcoholic beverage containers in every City park, limits consumption to the permit area, and requires a fee set by annual City Council resolution. A permit can be revoked by the Parks and Recreation director or a police officer for violating any rule or ordinance, or for other good cause, under section 12.36.090.
